Hi friend!
When you think of burnout— what comes to mind?
Not anything pleasant, right?
Burnout, essentially is a state of physical, emotional, mental, & spiritual exhaustion resulting from prolonged & excessive stress.
It’s an insidious process — as it happens gradually over time, often going unnoticed until one is deep in the burnout cycle.
Most people overlook the subtle signs & symptoms of burnout and may dismiss it as “normal stress” or “being tired.” This is concerning though because then nothing gets done to address what’s happening until it’s “too late.”
But this doesn’t have to be YOU!
And so to help ward off exhaustion, feeling drained, overwhelm, & burnout…it is critical that we create time & space out of our days for ourselves where we can just pause & take a break.
You deserve to give yourself a break….to let yourself off the hook a bit, and to let yourself have some much deserved space.
You deserve to give yourself permission to rest and reset.
And so see if this post here can be your invitation to gift yourself that opportunity.
Below I share some of the nourishing, replenishing, & restorative practices we can take on when we're feeling drained or when we’re just not feeling like ourselves. Check ‘em out. Which one(s) speak to you?
Nourish. Replenish. Restore.
Take a nap 😴 — set a timer, or multiple timers & let yourself dose off for a bit. I like to set my timer for 27 min because studies show it takes about 7 mins to fall into a sleep state & 20 min is just enough to help boost our alertness & to give us the energy we may need.
Go for a short walk 🚶— even if it’s in your backyard or down the street. Give yourself a change of scenery. Get some fresh air. This can be enough to help reset & clear your mind & can help to also boost your mood.
Take a pause to breathe and notice the moment 😮💨— breathe in, notice as the breath enters into your body. Hold it for a few seconds. Then release, notice how the air leaves your body. Be with that experience. And notice your surrounding— like where are you? What do you smell? What do you see? What can you hear? Feel? Take a moment to simply notice.
Take a warm shower 🚿 — use this as an opportunity to “wash” your worries & stress away. Focus solely on the experience of being in the shower. When thoughts come up to try and steal away your moment, that’s okay. The moment you notice it’s happening, redirect your focus back onto the experience of showering. This in of itself can be immensely therapeutic.
Give yourself kindness and compassion 💌— take a moment to just love on yourself. If you struggle to love yourself, then see if you can gift yourself a moment to simply honor yourself. What went well today & how did you contribute to that? Did you brush your teeth today, make your bed, eat food? Pat yourself on the back. Taking even just a brief moment to do this can help to shift your energy & motivate you to finish the day strong.
Could you do any of these today?
