How To Go From Feeling Powerless To Powerful
This simple mindfulness technique has been proven to help strengthen your relationship with your emotions....
It’s interesting how it goes, right?
You work on yourself, to try & improve your life, and then you start living & feeling more calm, centered, aligned.
…and then, ALL it takes is that ONE person or word to bend you all out of shape, essentially getting you to lose your shit.
Have you experienced this before?
Like how many times have you reacted & then regretted it immediately afterwards?
How many times have you unintentionally made someone feel bad for not taking the time to just pause before responding?
In psychology this is called, “emotionally automaticity (it’s when you allow your emotions to react before you can respond)—
And I think it’s something we all go through or have experienced at some points in our lives.
But what if you can limit the amount of times things like that happen? And what if you were able to create a stronger relationship with your emotions so that you can better understand and work with them?
….Good news, because you can! 🎉
In this email, I’ll share —
Insight into the ERC technique (emotional reaction control) — a unique process that can help you strengthen your relationship with your emotions.

Let’s Get Into It—
It’s only the beginning.
2021 can still very much be YOUR year.
The news this past week have been tough, and it’s probably been a lot for you to take in. I know it has been for me. But please, take a breathe. Today is a new day, in a new week, which allows for new opportunities, for you to exist and to be the very change you would like to see in the world. ✨✨
When you work on yourself, and allow yourself to heal, the world heals.
Life is changing. And it’s changing fast. And a lot of people are experiencing very intense emotions around it all.
Feelings like anger, sadness, anxiety, fear, pain are at such heightened states right now, and if left like that for too long, a lot of ppl are going to suffer the negative effects.
Letting your emotions control you can become problematic to your health and your life. If you find that you struggle to feel your feelings out, theres help. There’s plenty of tools (many I share with you already :)) to help you successfully navigate thru. It may be tough now but it won’t be forever my friend.
One way you can learn how to cultivate a stronger relationship with your emotions is through a mindfulness technique I learned called ERC (emotional reaction control) — which is a process that aims to help you become more accepting & tolerating of your emotions. And you can integrate this technique at anytime, anywhere, even right now.
…A simple technique & to start, all you need is your breath.
ERC — 8 step process to pursue when uncomfortable thoughts/emotions arise
Before using this technique, begin by using the power of your breathe. First, take 3 deep breaths, then…
Accept thought or emotion☝🏽
Tolerate any discomfort that may arise😅
Realize the discomfort makes you stronger💪🏽
Understand the thought, mood, & situation are impermanent♻️
Use mindfulness to bring your attn to the present🧠
Practice🎯
When you fall, get back up🦵🏽
Arrive to your center📍
Use this technique when you’re faced with difficult or uncertainty or whenever you’re experiencing challenging emotions. And practice using this technique everyday (to make it stick— practice this technique everyday for 14 days) to really help strengthen your ability to better handle anything life throws your way.
The Present Moment — Why paying attn MATTERS
Consider this—
If you were to take a moment to breathe; or to close your eyes; or even just count to ten after receiving some kind of stimulus from the outside world? How might your day or year or life change? How might it make all the difference?
I think that if you just take a micro moment to pause before mindlessly reacting, & just allow yourself some space to clear your mind, to be in the present moment, to recalibrate, you then allow yourself room to accept, to then decide how you want to respond; to navigate in a way that supports your intention of pursuing growth so that you can flourish into your true authentic self.
The power lies between the stimulus & your response…and to cultivate this power, I think it requires a sense of awareness; an awareness that can be achieved through paying attention to the moment right in front of you; just really noticing everything as it is and observing it with a non-judgmental mind.
Paying attention is the foundation to what mindfulness is about. And in my latest blog post, I talk about why paying attention to the present is so critical for your ability to cultivate a real & lasting sense of zen in your life.
