How to Create More Time for YOU (when you don’t have time)
The Busy Person’s Guide to Preventing Burnout
Hi friend,
Raise your hand if you too find yourself on most days—jumping out of bed, frantically getting ready for the day ahead to attend to your responsibilities, cross things off your to do list, drive from here to there to get errands done, only to find yourself at the end of the day feeling drained.
Sound like you?
And doesn’t it almost feel like each day gets busier and busier too?
“Living a life where we are constantly on go creates the perfect conditions for burnout, but it doesn’t have to be this way.”
If you saw my to-do list, your jaw might drop—or you might just nod because you get it.
But living this way is not it, and I’m sure you know that.
Living a life where we are constantly on go creates the perfect conditions for burnout, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Sure, it's okay to stay busy and get things done, but where is the balance? When do we take time to slow down, tend to ourselves, and ensure we're okay?
~Self-care~
Most if not all of us heard about self care. We know it’s important. We may even know a few things we “should” be doing when it comes to taking care of ourselves.
But if I asked you what self-care looks like for you, what would your answer be?
Something I hear over and over again is, “how would I fit in self care with such a busy schedule packed into my day?
If that was your response, you’re not alone. It’s a valid question.
So many of us live our lives giving and giving and giving all day long while at work & even while at home. It makes sense to wonder where you would find the time for you.
And even when time is available, (which is rare) other priorities find a way to take over. Am I right?
It’s like you want to prioritize yourself, you want to give yourself the care and attention you deserve, but life, as it’s set up for you, makes it difficult.
So then, what happens if we don’t make time for self-care?
Our well-being continues to suffer. The consequences can include:
Chronic low energy
Feeling hopeless
Less patience
Increased physical symptoms of stress like headaches and stomach aches
Difficulty falling and staying asleep
Worsening mental health symptoms like depression or anxiety
Feeling “burnt out”
Difficulty concentrating
Reduced work performance
Less motivation for social activities
Have you noticed any of these symptoms or reactions in yourself? Maybe you have & maybe you want to make a change but aren’t sure how to actually make that change.
Creating change isn’t always easy. To change habits we’ve been stuck in for a long time can feel challenging and sometimes even impossible.
‼️ But here’s the good news: you don’t need a lot of time to practice self care ‼️
Yes, it may feel overwhelming to start something new or add something like self care to your schedule, but it doesnt have to be time consuming.
It wont necessarily be easy at first, but worth it because learning to squeeze self care into your life may actually lead to a life where you feel less stressed, clearheaded, & have more patience, too.
The key is to start by giving yourself permission to get creative with the time that is available to you.
Because self care is about finding those little windows in your day and turning them into moments that feels nourishing for you.
This doesn’t need to be drastic either—it's about finding what works for you and doing it consistently.
It can look like:
Morning Mindfulness: Starting your day with a few minutes of deep breathing or even a short meditation. This can help set a positive tone for the day ahead.
Break Time Stroll: Taking a little walk during your lunch break. Even a short stroll can clear your mind and boost your mood.
Mindful Eating: Using mealtime as an opportunity to practice mindfulness by honoring your meals, praying over your food, eating slowly and savoring each bite. This can help make meals more satisfying & can also help to bring more ease into the moment.
Evening Journaling: Spending a few minutes before bed reflecting on your day or jotting down things you're grateful for. This can promote relaxation and a sense of closure.
Take a moment to reflect:
Where in your day, even for just a few minutes, can you carve out space that’s for you? What small, simple change can you make today to create a moment of self-care for yourself?
THIS MONTH IS ALL ABOUT—MINDSET 🧠
This month on Instagram and Facebook, I’m focusing on everything mindset.
Each week, we’ll explore a new topic around mindset designed to optimize our minds and make space for the self-care we deserve.
This week, we’re diving into mindset awareness—because awareness is the first step to creating change.
Our mindset affects how we perceive and react to situations, which influences our overall well-being. By becoming aware of our thoughts and beliefs, we can shift unhelpful patterns and create more positive outcomes.
If you aren’t already, join me on Instagram and Facebook to stay connected and to also be apart of this month’s mindset journey!
